Colposcopy & cervical follow-up
Colposcopy, assessment and follow-up after abnormal Pap tests, and evaluation of cervical lesions.
Information about colposcopy and cervical follow-up after abnormal Pap or HPV results. Arrange an appointment with Dr. Itai Yagel at Hadassah in Jerusalem or Ramat Gan.
What is colposcopy?
Colposcopy examines the cervix under magnification using an illuminated instrument that stays outside the body. It helps assess cervical cell changes or lesions.
Why might it be recommended?
Reasons include abnormal Pap results, selected HPV findings or concerning cervical findings and bleeding after sex.
What happens during the examination?
A speculum is inserted, solutions highlight areas for examination, and a small biopsy may be taken. Discomfort, stinging or brief pain can occur; you may ask to pause. A biopsy is different from conization, and treatment is not always needed.
What happens afterwards?
You usually go home the same day. Spotting and mild cramps can follow biopsy. Follow individual advice about sex, tampons, activity and results. Findings determine follow-up.
When should you seek help?
Seek prompt medical advice for heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge or severe or worsening pain.
Preparing for your appointment
Please bring available Pap and HPV results, colposcopy reports, biopsy findings and summaries of previous cervical treatments. You may prepare questions about your findings and follow-up plan.
