What is operative hysteroscopy?
Operative hysteroscopy treats findings inside the uterus using a slim camera and instruments passed through the vagina and cervix, without abdominal incisions. Diagnostic hysteroscopy examines the cavity; operative hysteroscopy also provides treatment.
When may it be appropriate?
Examples include removing polyps or suitable fibroids projecting into the uterine cavity. Size, location, symptoms and treatment goals guide selection; not every fibroid is suitable.
How is it performed?
Operative hysteroscopy performed by Dr. Itai Yagel takes place only in an operating theatre, under sedation or general anaesthesia. The anaesthetic approach is tailored to the procedure and your medical condition. Fluid gently expands the uterine cavity, and treatment is carried out under direct vision.
How should you prepare?
Report possible pregnancy, medicines and allergies. Hysteroscopy is not performed during pregnancy. Follow the team's fasting, medication and escort instructions; do not stop medication independently.
Recovery and possible risks
Discharge is often the same day. Cramping and spotting may occur. Recovery depends on treatment and anaesthesia. Risks include bleeding, infection and rarely uterine perforation. Seek prompt help for heavy bleeding, fever, foul-smelling discharge or worsening pain. Confirm pathology results and follow-up if tissue was removed.
